Amsterdam
Amsterdam is a colourful and cosmopolitan city with 2.25 million inhabitants. With one of the world’s major hub airports, handling over 46 million passengers in 2006, and an extensive public transport system, Amsterdam is easily accessible by road, rail and air.
There is a wealth of international cuisine on offer in Amsterdam: from sushi bars to a restaurant in a genuine Bedouin tent, visitors will always find a restaurant that suits their taste. Visitors can also relax in one of the 1,400 cafés, try their luck in the casino or dance until the early hours in many of the bars and clubs.
Amsterdam is also closely associated with the arts and culture. Over 50 museums house some of the largest art collections from world famous artist including Van Gogh and Rembrandt, as well as more contemporary artists. Amsterdam also has an amazing history ranging from the 350-year old Royal Palace, which was once the residence of Napoleon Bonaparte, to the Anne Frank House – the hiding place where she wrote her famous diary during World War II.
