The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Science and Technology Directorate (S&T) Apex Screening at Speed program is pursuing transformative research and development activities to increase aviation security effectiveness. R&D activities are expected to dramatically reduce wait times, increase throughput and improve the overall passenger experience.
To enable this vision, Apex Screening at Speed, in conjunction with the Transportation Security Administration’s (TSA) Innovation Task Force (ITF), is soliciting ideas for passenger self-screening technologies to help transform the TSA PreCheck concept of operations. The self-screening objective is to create passenger-friendly, intuitive screening while improving security, accelerating the passenger experience and reducing transportation security officer (TSO) engagement and pat-downs.
Vendor solutions are expected to produce the following benefits: transformed screening procedure – a refresh in how on-person screening is conducted; faster screening and alarm resolution – a reduction in average on-person processing times; improved passenger and TSO experience – a change in the need for transportation security officers to conduct physical pat-downs; and improved PreCheck product – a transformation in PreCheck checkpoint layout and experience.
