Digital transformation boosting passenger experience
Hamad International Airport

Hamad International Airport (DOH) has introduced multiple wayfinding solutions that will simplify how passengers move from one place to another. The airport’s approach toward digital solutions for wayfinding was in a response to a two-part problem. The first was finding solutions to provide passengers with information and route discovery, and the other was navigating through the airport’s expansive terminal.

About seven years ago the airport introduced digital wayfinding through its mobile app and was the first airport to introduce this service through Apple’s indoor navigation. Fast-forward to 2023 and this service has expanded by incorporating QR codes and digital devices across multiple touchpoints in the airport, where passengers are offered a variety of wayfinding solutions.

The digital devices introduced by the airport are at Orchard and the North Plaza, which include navigation solutions and information related to retail and F&B offers, flights, attractions and more. The Scan & Go, which is an industry-first adoption of QR codes for wayfinding solutions at scale, has been integrated into the devices as well as into the FIDS screens throughout the terminal.

The airport strives to provide an innovative experience for passengers fueled by choice and flexibility through smart technology, automation and self-service.
